Dining rooms: one of the most wholesome rooms in the whole house. It is where the family gathers after a long day to delve into the day’s happenings. It is where the dog and you cuddle up by the fireplace to enjoy each other’s company. It is where you sip a glass of wine alone, basking in the light of the sunset.
Though the room represents boundless joy, we know that not everybody has a particular need for a dining room. Some may find more use for the space when it is transformed into something else. Whether it be a “man cave” in a bachelor pad or a home library in the apartment of a sophisticate, we are here to suggest alternative ideas that you could use for dining room space.
Here are some alternative ideas for your dining space:
Idea #1: Home office
With the rise of remote work and the need for a dedicated workspace at home, turning a dining room into a home office can be a practical solution to killing two birds with one stone: getting your work done and transforming your space!
Try changing your space by adding a desk, comfortable office chair, and storage units to organize paperwork and supplies! Personalize it a little bit to add some spice! Love patterns? Great, add some animal print to your binders. Love a more minimalistic look? Perfect, add a splash of grey as an accent wall and keep everything else neutral.
Idea #2: Furniture
If you could not tell, many options involve using living room furniture! What we love about living room furniture is how versatile it is. If you want to use the space as a home office, you can select furniture conducive to productivity, such as a sturdy desk and filing cabinets.
If you want to get active and sweat your top off in the room, you can choose furniture such as a shoe rack or post-workout juice island to make your protein shakes. Start browsing a furniture store for different options that match your dining room space.
Idea #3: Playroom
This is perfect if you have young kids or plan to start a family! This could provide a dedicated space for your kids to play and learn (or, if you are a fur parent, for your animals to play and get some energy out!). To transform the space, add kid-friendly furniture, such as a small table and chairs, a play kitchen, or a reading nook. This is perfect because you can customize it any way you want!
If your kids love dinosaurs? Add some dinosaur stickers to a whiteboard or paint one on the wall, and you are golden. We love this option because it gives you a purpose for your space and an opportunity for your children (or pets) to play and explore, but it also allows you to separate the mess from the rest of the house.
Idea #4: Fitness Space
We love to get our sweat on! As such, what better way to use your space than to turn your room into a space dedicated to exercise and health? You can add equipment that aligns with your fitness goals, such as a treadmill, stationary bike, or yoga mat. You can also incorporate storage units for weights, resistance bands, and other fitness gear.
We know that a lot of this sounds hefty. However, it does not need to be all that! Even something as simple as a yoga mat, a couple of weights, and a mirror can be enough to change the entire space.
Idea #5: Game room
Sometimes when the business of the world gets too much, it is nice to shut your brain off and hop on your gaming console with your buddies! It can be hard to get the space to do so, especially when living with a partner or family.
Dedicating a space to this purpose will allow you to do so. You can add a pool table, foosball table, or board game table, as well as comfortable seating for players.
Idea #6: Home theatre
At the end of a long day, there is nothing quite like kicking up your feet, grabbing a bag of popcorn, and turning on your favourite movie. Although a thick blanket can achieve the same thing in bed, a surround sound system and chairs dedicated to movie-watching are incomparable.
To transform the space, you can add a large screen, surround sound system, and comfortable seating for movie nights!
